Lovin' Lit and Liberating Languaging

November 1, 2024 center for liberatED languaging

The team of translingual facilitators

BLLING-NYU is thrilled to have co-learned with the families of Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Early Childhood Center today! A team of MS students in CSD created a lesson plan with the book Platanos are Love by Alyssa Reynoso-Morris (We thank Nemesis Salguero Perez, Melissa McSweeney, Anna Harutyunyan, and Madelyn Escario for creating the lesson plan).

This was our most interdiciplinary team yet! Students from both modalities of the MS in CSD program (Victoria Andersen, Breanna Acevedo, and Angel Shaji - we missed Nella and Gloria!) as well as from TESOL (Raisa Kasturi) and Learning, Technology, and Experience Design in ATL (Lourdes Keochgerien) collaborated in the implementation of the translingual storybook reading.

The threat of rain moved us indoors and, other than a few transition tears, we had a wonderful time sharing about the many ways in which our familias' funds of knowlwedge (specifically our favorite comidas) serve as important legacies and moments of loving connections.

Gracias to Yhamiles Narvaez and Janette Newman from LH for continuing the engagement that started back in 2017, and to the families for always being willing to spend time learning with us!!
